Special Events

This week we were privileged to have a group of six passionate followers of Christ joining us from Pretoria, 11 - 14 October. They assisted us with the daily SCA's, community visits and setups including sound, lights, decor, games and drama - plus building relationships and impacting lives wherever they went.

Both teams could learn a lot from each other, encouraging and motivating to fulfill their purpose in ministry.

A large amount of fun and growth was experienced by all as God was glorified in their lives and the places they visited!

Lights, sound, soul and energy! These words capture the atmosphere on stage at the local arts festival that took place on Saturday, 7 August 2010 at the Fairview Mission Community Hall in Umzumbe.

All twenty artists that participated gave it their all. From dance, drum and song to poetry and hip-hop, they were welcomed with a resounding response from the crowd. Highlights included a fast-paced pantsula dance from Kwanzimakwe group, “Most Wanted” and powerful poetic verse from Durban poet, “Tswi Hlakotsa”.

Thanks to the Hibiscus Coast municipality, local councillors & community leaders, Eskom and Porta Spa for their assistance with the event. Look out for future shows that further seek to expose the often unrecognised talent on the South Coast, and create awareness about the negative social issues plaguing the youth of our country.

It was a perfect day. With the sun shining, no rain, clear sky and a warm 24 degrees – both player and supporter attending this event was treated to a competitive display of soccer action and entertainment.

On Saturday 10 July 2010, One Way together with Youth in Action and the Hibiscus Municipality hosted a 5-a-side soccer tournament at the New Covenant Church soccer ground in Protea Park. Prizes were awarded to the winning team “Young Tigers A”; runners up “White Stars”, plus player of the tournament (S’hawu Gumede) and top goal scorer (Bafana “Les” Mjwara).

The 16 teams that entered gave it their all and thoroughly enjoyed the exciting tournament – soccer being the ultimate winner at the end of the day.

One Way looks forward to follow up this event with plans to host bigger and better competitions of this nature and run free soccer coaching clinics and development programmes for the underprivileged youth in the surrounding areas and communities.

For more information in this regard, you can contact Simon Nilsson on 079 031 9727.

A word of thanks must be extended to the KZN department of Sport & Recreation for their assistance with the event – including prizes and equipment, and Pastor Neville from the New Covenant Church for the use of their property.
